"Launching our initiative, we inspire youth leaders, one heart at a time."
About
The Youth SEL EMPOWER program, co-founded by Lisa Goodson, Citywide Director of Social Emotional Learning and Academic Integration, and June ArcaMay, Administrator of Climate and Culture, is designed to authentically enhance cultural awareness and foster a sense of belonging within a school community.
When striving to create an inclusive environment, authenticity is key, as forced or inauthentic efforts often fail to resonate with students. The Youth SEL EMPOWER program addresses this by empowering students to take the lead in building meaningful connections. Through peer-led engagements, students are more comfortable and engaged, ensuring that the atmosphere is genuine and conducive to lasting, positive relationships.

Vision
Our vision is to create a NYC Public School System where every young person has the opportunity to lead with empathy, integrity, and inclusivity, fostering strong communities where everyone feels valued and supported. Through the Youth SEL EMPOWER Program, we aim to inspire a generation of leaders who will shape a brighter future through their commitment to fostering belonging and social-emotional growth in themselves and others.
